A workshop on Experiential Learning- STEM Education, a ‘Journey to Discover through Robotics as Platform’ was organized for the teachers of Homerton Grammar School, Sector-21/A, Faridabad. The workshop was organised by Neo Robos. Neo Robos specialises in delivering 21st century classroom learning using best of the Information and Computing Products (ICT) available around the world. Mr. Nishant Jain, Founder Director Robotech Pvt. Ltd. conducted the workshop with his team and facilitators.
The purpose of the workshop was to emphasise on the usefulness and the practicality in providing a platform for the application of knowledge through Project Based Learning, that is, Automation. In today’s world, the technology is changing ever so rapidly. The education has to be about adapting to the changing world. The workshop focused on using STEM education and hands-on-learning, to develop 21st century skills – Creativity, Communication, Collaboration and Critical Thinking.
The highlight of the workshop was hands on activities performed by the teachers under supervision of Neorobos facilitators. The teachers participated with full enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed the activities. Most importantly, the teachers got an insight on how involving our hands in the teaching-learning process can enhance the effectiveness of the program.
Various group activities were incorporated in the workshop to enrich the experience of the teachers and improve their understanding of the concept of including information and computing products in our daily teaching. In the Duck Activity lego blocks were given to the teachers and were asked to make a duck. The idea was to enable teachers to encourage creativity and uniqueness of the students. The activity taught the teachers that it was not fair to say “This is not a duck” – or “This one is wrong” because to the one who has built it, it was a duck. There are many creative ways to do the same task.
The next task was Giraffe Activity. This activity focused on the importance of hands-on-leaning, where teachers built a giraffe keeping in mind the characteristics of a giraffe. The Fan Activity was where the teachers focused on Problem Solving, and how complicated mathematical concepts can be simplified if we use real life problems. The Top Spin Activity explained the concept of Centre of Gravity in the most simplest way. Various other tasks like Edubot Challenge enticed the teachers to put Edubot, a sturdy construction of colourful design, through its paces on a spread sheet. The highlight was the Line Follower, a programmable robot, using a light sensor, Gear Transmission Car that moved only on a black line with the help of light sensors.
A variety of products was displayed during the session. The teachers participated with great excitement and emotional engagement during the task. The Principal, Mrs. Archana Dogra expressed her gratitude and thanked the Neo Robos team for making the workshop a grand success.
